Dreieck Kreis Kreuz Quadrat
Dass Sony nicht einfach alles ein wenig anders machen wollte, sondern sich konkret was gedacht hat beim Designen des Joypads für seine kommende Konsole, zeigt ein Interview mit Teiyu Goto. So soll das Dreieck die eigene Sicht symbolisieren (in grün), der Kreis ein “Ja”, das Kreuz dagegen das “Nein”, während das Quadrat Menüs oder Dokumente darstellen sollte.
Wer hätte das gedacht. Kommt immer wieder gut, wenn ein erster Beweger nach Jahrzehnten en passant seine Motivationen preisgibt, in diesem Fall zu einer der unbestrittenen Ikonen der 90er und 2000er Jahre. Und weil der Gute Japaner ist, kommt natürlich noch eine Anekdote der Bescheidenheit *humble humble dazu.

Here’s a little video that shows you the real world Pripyat near Chernobyl compared to the one delivered in Modern Warfare. The fact that you’re having a bit of a hard time to correctly tell one from another tells a lot about just how real some games have become as of 2010.
And I think the brown-green-grey area is one hell of a spooky setting.

Put your CD cover where your desktop is.
We all desperately need to display the cover of the CD we’re listening to at the moment on our desktops. It’s true! And that’s why Mathias Nedreb* (can’t seem to find the o with a slash on it…wait…here it is: ø) has come up with a little plug-in for ubuntu’s standard music player rhythmbox. I’ve seen it on many sites and blogs, and it’s been around for a while, but it never worked for me until now.
First, punch in the following commands to install the plug-in, taken from Mathias’ site:
mkdir -p $HOME/.gnome2/rhythmbox/plugins/ cd $HOME/.gnome2/rhythmbox/plugins/ svn co http://nedrebo.org/svn/rhythmbox/desktop-art
. Now, look if you have got the other packages the plug-in requires.
When starting Rhythmbox and looking through the plug-ins, check “Desktop Art” and you can start configuring the bad boy. For me however, it was “Desktop Art cannot be activated.” The reason behind this was another missing package and hence a missing dependency.
sudo apt-get install python-rsvg
should get you fixed up (Thanks, baumgard).
When configuring, just press Alt and move the cover around your desktop.

FP’s actual issue features a piece on how to cope with the rising threat of a global zombie meltdown. The author addresses the ever-rising popularity of the undead and takes that as a hint for foreign policy and diplomacy as a whole: There will be the need for answers. And since apparently none of the current theories have been tested while keeping an eye on zombies, he feels that he’s just following up on a lead.
This, however, is only an early outline, theories will have to be tested, and a scientific discussion has yet to do its uprising. But it is an important first step. Also, it never occurred to me that Shaun is quoting Bertrand Russell.

We have to hand it to MS – there is one major issue that affects most of your average Joe’s web browsing experience deeply indeed. We’re talking, of course, about the question of just how psychedelic your browser is. To find out, if you haven’t already, you need to go to

Just recently found out about the upcoming little gadget that will be included in the Prestige edition of Black Ops. How exactly would you try to top nicht vision goggles?
The answer is – with a little motorized drone buggy that has a live audio/video feed to your remote control.
This is of course so that the Black Ops dude here doesn’t have to get up.
Although we’re still waiting for the flying version that uses your iDevice as a remote and has an API for others to build apps on top of that.

Meine liebsten Podcasts kennt ihr ja jetzt, machen wir weiter mit meinen liebsten Mangas.
- Auch wenn ich nur sporadisch Mangas lese, und ich die leise Ahnung habe, dass die übersetzten Werke quali- wie quantitativ nur die Spitze des Eisberges darstellen (lllh), lassen wir uns nicht von der schieren Masse der auch hier erhältlichen erdrücken, und fangen gleich an, mit dem absurdesten: マーメイドメロディーぴちぴちピッチ Mermaid Melody pichi pichi pitchi. Es geht um Meerjungfrauen, Perlen, und weil wir data-mining hounds sind, sei hier noch kurz gesagt, dass die Autoren Michiko Yokote (Text) und Pink Hanamori (Zeichnungen) sind, und die Verlage Heyne und Kodansha. Aber darum geht es nicht. Es geht nur und ausschließlich um den Titel. Ich bin seit all den Jahren nie über diese Unglaublichkeit hinwegkommen.
- Jetzt zum Mainstream. Nunmehr bei Nummer 42 angekommen, scheint es kein Ende zu nehmen – ブリーチ BLEACH von Tite Kubo. Meines Erachtens auch zu Recht, denn zumindest bis in die frühen 30er sind Charaktere überzeugend und lustig, die Handlung treibend – um dann sich jedoch beständig zu wiederholen. Drei, vier Charaktere laufen durch ein Verließ, treffen auf ebenso viele Gegner, und quatschen und kämpfen miteinander. Leider bleibt es dann irgendwann dabei, ohne den Witz vom Anfang. Aber alles hat eben ein Ende.
- Die nächste Kategorie besteht wie so mancher Superlativ nur aus einem einzigen Eintrag: Der beste. Abgeschlossen in zwölf Bänden, geschaffen von Tsugumi Ohba (Text) und Takeshi Obata (Zeichnungen), und mit einem Heer an begleitenden Medien wie dem Anime, den Filmen inklusive Spin Offs, CDs, Büchern, und vielen Videospielen, belegt er in so ziemlich jeder Kategorie mit Abstand den ersten Platz. Die Zeichnungen sind überirdisch, die Charaktere und die allgemeine Stimmung sehr fesselnd, und die Geschichte eine der spannendsten überhaupt, medienübergreifend gesprochen, die ich jemals erfahren habe. Nach den ersten Durchgängen fühlt man sich jedoch, als ob das Gehirn jetzt eine Spirale ist. Aber es gibt garantiert auf alle Fragen eine Antwort, Ehrensache.
L aus デスノート DEATH NOTE. - Und zu guter letzt zu einem neueren Vertreter, wiederum von einem einzelnen Autoren – Tsutomu Niheis バイオメガ BIOMEGA. Abgehschlossen in sechs Bänden, meist Bilder und sehr wenig Text, geht es um einen Virus, der in der 1000 Jahre entfernten Zukunft die letzten Reste der Endzeitwelt zugrunde richtet. Ich bin nicht sicher, ob ich alles verstanden habe, ob man überhaupt alles verstehen soll, aber als gekonnte Mischung aus Atmosphärik-Klassikern wie AKIRA und ins Gesicht-Filmen wie Texas Chainsaw Massacre steht BIOMEGA sein Platz in der kleinen Liste hier mehr als zu.
Falls der eine oder andere noch nicht bekannt war, viel Vergnügen…aber wie gesagt, Spitze vom Eisberg.
